Just your TRUE self
Earlier today, someone shared a concern with me about the challenges she’s been facing with Leadership and most importantly, People. I am quick to remind folks that People are your greatest asset on earth and also your biggest burden.
When it comes to matters concerning creatures created on the Sixth Day, there isn’t a straight through answer.- considering the law of individualism and how dynamic we can be. However, my response was premised on two grounds - Ensure your heart is properly guarded and ensure all you give is your true self at all time.
I was further asked about the biggest thing I’ve ever done as a Leader. Whilst I know I’ve done quite a lot, I shared how I assisted in washing the lifeless body of a deceased team member, helped with the clothes and ensuring he’s properly laid in the coffin.
It’s difficult but I did all of that from a premise of truth and not guilt or compulsion. The man wasn’t what you’ll term ‘Consistent’ while he was here but I ensured my heart wasn’t tainted by our experiences, and I also gave my true self all through the season i led him on this side of eternity.
Your true self isn’t and mustn’t be a perfect state. It’s simply a state where you understand how frail we are as humans and how you must daily offer grace to others and yourself. Also, knowing fully well that it mustn’t always be about Me and the fickleness of life will always beat us to this reality.
